Keith Toovey wins GC B-level at Wrest Park
On 19th May, a field of 16 players from 12 different clubs took part in this tournament. It was played in bright sunny conditions but with a nagging threat of heavy showers always present.
Although not the winner of his block, Keith progressed to the quarter-final which he won 7-4. In the semi-finals, Keith sustained his best form to win.
Few would have predicted a final between Keith and Jane Powell (Ealing), but both demonstrated their prowess at positional play before Keith gained a deserved victory (7-5).
The predicted build-up of ominously dark clouds took place as the final was completed. The clouds slid by in time for the presentation.

Richard Peperell wins AC Level Advanced B-Block at Watford
On 19th and 20th May, a field of 8 players took part in this tournament for the  Cassiobury Salver.  Up against players of lower handicaps, Richard played well, winning 4 out of 5 with his nearest rival on 3 out of 5, and reducing his AC handicap into the bargain.

(Sadly only a few days later at Surbiton in another 2-day AC level event, Richard came crashing back to reality losing all but one match against a similar quality field. What a difference a few days makes!)
