Founded in 1982, our aim is to promote and develop croquet by providing opportunities for recreation and competition in South Bucks and beyond. From humble beginnings, we're now a thriving community with 100 members and with plans to expand from two lawns to five.
Coaching The Club, which has been noted for the quality of our coaching, offers short, free, coaching sessions are laid on by our accredited coaches, including Ian Shore, who was selected as the Croquet Association’s Coach of the Year for 2019. Various members are also happy to provide friendly support to learners.
Mindful of the needs of more experienced players, who want to improve their game and/or become tournament managers, referees and coaches themselves, the Club has facilitated the formation of the Chiltern Croquet Academy. This makes a wider range of high quality courses available locally - see the Academy's website for details of how to book.
If you'd like more information on coaching opportunities please email [email protected].
Tournaments and Competitions Here at HWCC, we love a bit of healthy competition. So throughout spring and summer we run internal tournaments for our members. This continues (weather permitting) through the winter, too.
We're also successfully involved in regional competitions and county tournaments.
Several of our members play at the international level, both in singles and team events. So however high your ambitions fly, we can help!
Weekly Schedule and Coaching During the croquet season (April - September), our calendar is full of opportunities to play. Here is an example of a typical weekly schedule. Our "roll-ups" are events open to members to come along and practise together, play a friendly game, or work on their technique. These roll-ups are split into Association Croquet or Golf Croquet. (More on that here.)
When they aren't booked for roll-ups, the lawns are available for members to reserve. If you'd like more information on becoming a member, please email [email protected]
David Richard Mary
Meet the Team
David Cotton - Chairman David played garden croquet with his wife and daughters before joining his first croquet club 28 years ago. Whilst his kids never got the croquet bug, David never lost it! .
Richard Coward - Treasurer Richard loved garden croquet as a youngster and then with his own sons. He joined the club in 2022, having never played 'real' croquet before!
Mary Whimster - Secretary Mary only started to play croquet after coming to the club’s open day in 2022. She "is finding it an entertaining activity and enjoying the challenge of improving both my croquet and my handicap (or not)!"
