Success in the Longman Cup

4/8/2020

Hot on the heels of our Mary Rose victory, HWCC entertained Nottingham on Tuesday 4th Aug in the quarter-finals of the Longman Cup AC Tournament, another CA National tournament.
At lunch we were 2:1 down, but brilliant play by both Frances Colman and Robin Morrison in the afternoon brought the score to a respectful 3 all. So with one more game to conclude, all the pressure was on 'our Ed' (Ed Olhausen). With time just about up, he was trailing 18-23. Now with a crowd watching (is 7 people a crowd at croquet?), Ed hit in from a distance, and proceeded to run hoops whilst trying to build his break knowing that one mistake and it’s match over. Pressure, what pressure? Steady and taking his time, Ed played masterfully to peg out both his balls and win, meaning High Wycombe won the match. We're through to the semi-final to be played v Hurlingham. An exciting finish and a cracking win by High Wycombe. Our team were Richard Peperell, Frances Colman, Ed Olhausen and Robin Morrison.
