One Ball for charity

1/5/2021

On Sunday 18th April we held our leg of the National One-Ball Charity Event. The weather was wonderful and the competition intense. This was an AC Handicap event but played with just one ball each, which makes it an ideal introduction to AC for GC players. After some complicated mathematics to get a one-ball handicap for each player, based on both their AC and GC handicaps, play commenced.

As the day progressed, it became clear that competent GC players can be most successful at this game. Mike Vickery, an AC novice, was taking all before him, with his accurate approach and hoop shots. He was unbeaten at lunch. But then so too was AC expert, Joel Taylor. In the afternoon, they met and Joel managed to counteract all Mike’s bisques to win 13-10. This was enough to win the day, but even Joel could not keep his 100% record by the end.

The Top 3 were: Joel Taylor (86% success), Mike Vickery (67%), David Warhurst (67%), with Mike gaining an impressive net hoops score of +24 overall. £130 was raised for the British Heart Foundation and Joel and Mike will represent us at the Finals Day on 9th May. The best of luck to you both.
