Come and Try -- they Came and Tried!

The advertisements had been placed, the leaflets and posters printed and distributed and the banners hung.
We knew we were going up against The Derby and The FA Cup on the Saturday afternoon but the troops were rallied and in uniform, the lawns set, refreshments tantalisingly arrayed beneath a gazebo, the sky was blue and the sun shining.

All we could do was wait.

10.00 came and we were open for business.

10.15 our first visitor. Stephen Crompton. “I have played a bit on my lawn at home” he said. Jane Gloster took him in hand to introduce him to Golf Croquet. Some 45 minutes later he fancied a go at Association Croquet. Ed Olhausen stepped in to take him in that direction.
Well Stephen is not one to waste time, by mid-day Monday he had Joined the Club.

At one point on Sunday we were doubled up on all four half lawns.

In total we had twenty-two visitors over the weekend and as I write this, just before leaving to help with the first free coaching session this evening, three of our visitors have become new members and new players of our great game.

A huge thank you to all of you who volunteered your help and brought cake.

Nigel Clogg
Chairman

The Recreation Ground is on the A404.  If approaching from the north, travel 400m south from the Hazlemere double roundabout, slow down at Holy Trinity Church on your left and look for a small road on your right with Croquet Club and Recreation Ground signs. Coming from the south (High Wycombe) direction, we are about a kilometre north of the Royal Grammar School.
